Borrowing and Renewals

All borrowed items must be returned to the Circulation Desk in the Library or deposited in the book drop located on the east side of the lobby.

Cards

All library users, including faculty, adjunct faculty, staff, full time students, and part time students must have a valid ID with library barcode to check out materials, including all course reserve items. Barcodes are issued at the library.

Outside users must present a valid public or college/university library card, whereupon they will be issued a Carroll library card.

Students

All currently enrolled students may check out books, government documents, records, and audio tapes for three weeks, and renew material for an additional three weeks, either in person or by telephone. Students must present a valid, barcoded Carroll College ID card.

Students may check out vidoeos, dvds, and audiovisual equipment for use in the library.

Reserve materials must be checked out with a valid Carroll College ID card.

Reference materials, periodicals, and certain audiovisual equipment does not circulate.

Fines for three week loan items are assessed at twenty cents per day per item. Overdue reserve materials are subject to fines of $2.00 per day per item. If you lose a book you will be billed for the cost to replace the book plus fines and a processing fee.

Borrowing privileges are suspended, including reserve materials, after a second notice of overdue materials has been sent to the patron.

If fines or book replacement fees are not paid in a timely manner, accounts are transferred to the Carroll College Business Office for collection. Failure to pay fines or return library materials will result in the withholding of grades and transcripts.

Faculty and Staff

Faculty and staff may check out all materials, with the exception of video tapes and DVDs, until the end of the current semester; video tapes and DVDs may be borrowed overnight only. All materials are subject to recall. Fines may be charged.

Faculty and staff must present a valid, barcoded Carroll College ID card.

Reference materials, periodicals, and certain audiovisual equipment circulate for short periods for special purposes.

Holds

Materials Held For 24 Hours Only

A hold slip is to be filled out if a faculty/staff member or a student wants to leave something at the desk to be held until they come back to pick it up. Items will be kept on the shelves behind the desk for 24 hours only. After this period the items will be put back on regular shelves.

Exceptions will be made for faculty members.

Outside Users

Users from outside the Carroll community will be issued a library card upon presentation of a valid card from their local or college library.

Outside users may check out books, government documents, records, and audio tapes for three weeks, and renew material for an additional three weeks, either in person or by telephone.

Reference materials and periodicals do not circulate.

Interlibrary loan services are not available to outside users - please use your local public library.

Videos/DVDs

Videos and DVDs are available for class-related use only.

Faculty and Staff may check out these materials overnight.

Students may view them in the Library - viewing rooms and equipment may be reserved. Some videos/DVDs are available for student check-out if placed on reserve by a professor. Fines are assessed at $2.00/day.

Outside users do not have access to the video/DVD collection.

Audiovisual Equipment

The following equipment is available in the Library for check out to faculty, staff, and students:

  • slide projectors
  • overhead projectors
  • 16mm film projector
  • cassette tape players
  • LP record players

The following equipment is available for faculty, staff, and student use in the Library:

  • DVD player
  • VHS player
  • laptop
  • LCD projector
  • typewriter
