Honors Theses - Library Requirements
The need for permanency of library materials dictates the following:
- Two unbound copies of each thesis are to be submitted to the library. They must be clear copies on white paper, 20-pound weight containing at least 25% cotton fiber. Such paper is available at office supply stores and the Carroll
bookstore. Paper designed for laser printers is available. - The copies may be typed or produced by other mechanical means that meet the requirements for permanent preservation of library materials. Carbon copies are not acceptable. Archival requirements dictate the use of black type.
- The copies submitted to the library must be in technically perfect form. Students should check with their directors regarding the department preference or required style. Thesis directors, not the librarian, judge the quality and accuracy of the thesis. The thesis must be paginated.
- Margins: top, right and bottom margins shall be one inch; left margin, one and one-half inches. Some style manuals have additional requirements.
- A signature page, with original signatures,is required for each copy of thesis. (Note: the signature page is not the same as the Final Approval sheet.)
- Drawings, photographs or other illustrations may be scanned into the text of the thesis or may be attached separately (see #7 below).
- For archival purposes, colored drawings, colored photographs or other colored illustrations are NOT acceptable. If colored ink is used in the copies submitted, a blank sheet of bond paper (see No. 1 above) must precede and follow each page containing color. The Library will not be responsible for the archival preservation of theses containing colored ink. The binding of theses with colored ink will
be at the library's discretion. - Clarity and legibility should guide the style of font selected and the darkness of copies.
