GoalIn accordance with the Carroll College Mission Statement, the Library Research Skills Component of English 102 will prepare students to find and evaluate information, and plan and conduct library research.
Objectives
  • Demonstrate the ability to critically evaluate and distinguish different levels of information
  • Demonstrate the ability to use library catalogs and databases
  • Become familiar with library classification systems
  • Develop research methodology skills
  • Demonstrate the ability to select appropriate resources
  • Document information sources using standard style manuals

 Annotated Bibliography due March 30th on Turnitin.com No bib will be accepted late
Assignments*Five in-class exercises will be assigned. You are encouraged to work on weekly assignments with a study partner.
*An annotated bibliography and 2 page essay will be due two weeks after our final library session. The annotated bib is not a partner project--it must be original, independent work.

Grading

Grades will be calculated as follows:

Completion of weekly assignments (5). Late weekly assignments will be marked down 10% for each day they are late. You will get no credit for homework I receive later than  five days late.525 points 
Last session quiz. No makeup quiz will be given100 points
Final paper/bibliography. No bib will be accepted late.326 points

Final grades will be submitted to your EN102 instructor. The work that you do for the library research component of EN 102 is worth 15% of your final EN102 grade.
Academic integrity: Do your own work. If you plagiarize in the work you do for me, you will be given a grade of F. If you need assistance in your assignments, please see me or Christian Frazza for assistance.

 

I do not take attendance at each class period. Attendance, however, is mandatory, and will be taken into account when I total up your final score. If you will or have missed class, let me know as soon as possible.
