IDENTIFY YOUR GENERAL SUBJECT / TOPIC ______________________________ (1 point)

 

 

1.      SEARCHING

Search the Corette Library catalog (OPAC) to find a book on your subject.  Use the basic search screen that automatically loads on your computer.  If you can not find anything on the topic you have picked, try to broaden the topic or narrow the topic. (15 points)

2.      SELECTING

If your search retrieves more than one item, select one and click on "details".  Scroll down to the bottom of the record and look under  Material and Location (in blue).  Make sure your selection is a book - "Book" should be listed under Material and "Stacks" should be listed under Location.

 

Ø       What is its status of your book?  Look under Location (5 points)

 

 

Ø      Searching on subject terms of relevant hits is a good way to find related material.  Click on the "Catalog Record" tab.  Write down one subject term listed for your selected book. If you don't find any subject headings, look at the box on the left that has the blue button "Mark" at the top and click on "Nearby Items on the Shelf".  Go into one of those records and find a subject heading.  Write it here.  (5 points)

3.   CREATING A BIBLIOGRAPHY

You can create a bibliography by marking one or more items in your list of search results.  Click on the blue "Mark" button.  Print the bibliography - use the  button on the top right of the page.  Use the  button on the bottom right of the page.  Attach the copy to this page. (10 points)

Note the call number and retrieve from the shelves (stacks) the book you listed in your bibliography.  If the book is not there, choose another on the same subject.  Write a bibliographic citation for this book using the correct format from your Hacker textbook pages 382-384.  This is not identical to what appears on the OPAC screen.  (20 points)
