Borrowing & Renewal

Cards

All library users, including faculty, adjunct faculty, staff, full time students, and part time students must have a valid ID with library barcode to check out materials, including all course reserve items. Barcodes are issued at the library.

Members of the General Public must present a valid public or college/university library card, whereupon they will be issued a Carroll library card.

Students

Borrowing

All currently enrolled students may check out books, government documents, and Carroll theses for three weeks, and may renew material for an additional three weeks, either in person, oline, or by telephone. Students must present a valid, barcoded Carroll College ID card. Items on which a hold has been placed may not be renewed.

Students may check out ipads, laptops, and audiovisual equipment for use in the library. Ipads may be checked out for in-library use only on weekends, and after 5:00 p.m. on weekdays.

Students may check out videos, DVDs and CDs for a period of two days.

Reserve materials must be checked out with a valid Carroll College ID card.

Reference materials and periodicals do not circulate.

Fines

Fines for three week loan items are assessed at twenty cents ($.20) per day per item. Overdue reserve materials are subject to fines of two dollars ($2.00) per day per item. If you lose a book you will be billed for the cost to replace the book plus fines and a processing fee.

After a second notice of overdue materials has been sent to the patron, borrowing privileges are suspended, including suspension of access to reserve materials.

If fines or book replacement fees are not paid in a timely manner, accounts are transferred to the Carroll College Business Office for collection. Failure to pay fines or return library materials will result in the withholding of grades and transcripts.

All borrowed items must be returned to the Circulation Desk in the Library or deposited in the book drop located on the east side of the lobby.

Faculty and Staff

Faculty and staff may check out all materials, with the exception of video tapes and DVDs, until the end of the current semester; video tapes, DVDs, and CDs may be borrowed for a period of two days. All materials are subject to recall.

Faculty and staff must present a valid, barcoded Carroll College ID card.

Faculty may check out ipads, laptops, and audiovisual equipment for use in the library.

Reference materials and periodicals circulate for short periods for special purposes.

Outside Users / Members of the General Public

Borrowing

Users from outside the Carroll community will be issued a library card upon presentation of a valid card from their local or college library.

Outside users may check out circulating books and government documents for three weeks and renew these materials, unless the items are requested by a member of the Carroll community.  Fines of overdue materials are $.20/day per item.  Items not available for circulation include reference materials, periodicals, DVDs, videos, ipads, reserve materials, and equipment.

Interlibrary Loan is only available to Carroll students, faculty and staff - please use your local public library if you require these services.

Access to Library Resources

Guests may access the Library's catalog from particular computers- printing is not possible from these computers.  Please inquire at the Circulation desk for assistance.

Databases / Indexes: outside users may not access the Library's subscribed electronic databases.

Photocopiers:  photocopiers are available in the Library.  Copies are ten cents ($.10) a page for b/w, and twenty-five cents ($.25) a page for color.

Microform:  a microform reader/printer is available in the Library. Copies are ten cents ($.10) a page.

Scanners: scanners are not available to members of the General Public.

Rooms: Library conference and seminar rooms are for use only by the College community.  The Carroll Campus Center is available for use by the general public. Please call 447-4407 for information and reservations.
