Position: Student Assistant RMDC Head Start
Department: Rocky Mountain Development Council Head Start
Purpose of Job: Head Start is an early childhood program that serves primarily low-income children and their families. Head Start uses a comprehensive approach to child development, offering services in areas such as parent education and involvement, medical and dental health, social and emotional growth, cognitive development, gross and fine motor development and speech & language. All Head Start services are available to eligible children, and special services are available to those children who need them. The position as Community Service Work-Study Student Assistant is responsible for assisting with the direct delivery of services in Head Start classrooms.
Duties and Responsibilities: assist classroom staff in offering an array of developmentally appropriate services to preschool children enrolled in the Head Start program; assist staff in preparing and maintaining the classroom environment; assist with carrying out classroom curriculum and routine; assist in providing individualized services to children as specifically identified by the classroom teacher (e.g., speech/language, fine & gross motor, social and emotional development.)
Qualifications: Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with parents, children and staff.
Employment Specifications: Work-Study only
Approximate Hours/Week: 10
Special Time/Schedule Requirements: Office Hours; blocks of time no less than 2 hours in duration.
Length of Employment: Fall & Spring
Wage Rate: $7.25 per hour
