Graduate Intern for Outreach/College Relations

Part-time, Hourly Position

This position is open until filled.

THE COLLEGE'S MISSION:

A COMMUNITY OF LEARNERS:
Cascadia is organized around principles that allow for access to information, collaboration, and communication. All employees of Cascadia are encouraged to participate in one of the groups that are centered around the four College-wide Learning Outcomes (Learn, Think, Communicate, and Interact). A primary function of each group is to research, synthesize, recommend, and implement assessment measures and practices that provide focus and advice for the rest of the college. This structure promotes a constant emphasis on learning outcomes, student success, cooperation, cross-department connections, and fluidity and flexibility in resource sharing and decision-making.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Under the general direction of the Associate Dean for Student Success, the Graduate Intern works collaboratively with the campus community to plan, promote and facilitate a comprehensive college outreach program.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
COLLEGE RELATIONS/OUTREACH-

-Assist with the implementation of the comprehensive college relations and outreach program to include high school visits, college fairs, and community events.
-Develop materials for dissemination to targeted audiences as needed.
-In collaboration with the Associate Dean for Student Success, select and train student ambassadors to participate in outreach activities.

PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT:
-Attend college sponsored events (including occasional evening and weekend activities).
-Provide support to the student leadership programs, including clubs, student government, student ambassadors, and campus events.
-Collaborate with other student success services staff to coordinate programs for high school counselors and other targeted groups.
-Coordinate outreach activities, catalog distribution, campus tours, etc.
-Coordinate the quarterly transfer tours and university visits to campus.

TRAINING AND LEADERSHIP:
-Assist with the training and supervision of the Student Ambassador Team.
-Provide leadership training to student leaders including, but not limited to Student Ambassador Team, Emerging Leaders Program, Student Government, and clubs/organizations.
-Assist in the development and implementation of a student leadership workshop series or leadership course.
-Facilitate regular staff meetings with student ambassadors.
Budget Management:
-Ensure compliance with appropriate state and college accounting rules and regulations.
-Assist student ambassadors with processing necessary paperwork for purchasing services/supplies, registering for conferences/community events, and employee travel.
-Maintain budget for outreach events and travel.

COMMUNICATION ACTIVITIES:
-Advise students/staff regarding outreach events and programs.
-Maintain communications with Cascadia’s administration including student success, finance and administration.
-Attend Community Connection Steering Committee meetings and other committee meetings as needed, take minutes.
-Assist in the development of written materials to communicate program information to students, such as brochures, fliers, and public announcements.

OTHER:
Serve on college committees and organizations as assigned.
Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Enrollment in a graduate program in student development, college student personnel, educational administration or related field

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This is a part-time, hourly position (anticipated length of position: August 2004 – May 2005). This position works up to 69 hours per month. The work schedule will vary according to department needs. Pay is $12.93/hour. Proof of current enrollment in a graduate program in student development, college student personnel, education administration or related field must be submitted each quarter/semester.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
In compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, proof of authorization to work in the U.S. will be required at the time of hire.
