Red Lodge Clearinghouse - Intern or Cooperative Education Opportunity

POSITION:
Red Lodge Clearinghouse (RLCH) is seeking an intern or cooperative education researcher. This position will help enhance the Funding Search section of the RLCH website through the development of new and maintenance of existing reports on grant funding available to western collaborative conservation groups. The position will require 10-15 hours of work per week and will pay $8.00 per hour (unless the student prefers an unpaid internship or is required that it is unpaid by academic department). Hours are flexible but must occur between 8:30am-5:30pm Monday-Friday. Intern will work from RLCH office at 32 South Ewing in Helena and necessary equipment will be provided.

JOB FUNCTION:
To research public and private donors to environmental conservation projects and develop concise summaries of the grant opportunities available from those donors in the 11 western states. Research will be conducted online, in libraries, and through direct contact with donors via email, phone, or other means. Summaries will be input into a database on www.redlodgeclearinghouse.org. Other tasks associated with the maintenance or updating of material on the website may also be assigned as necessary.

JOB CHARACTERISTICS:
1. Receives training and direction from communications coordinator and executive director, but research will generally be independent.

2. Conducts research in most expeditious means possible. Possible research avenues include the Internet, libraries, and personal communication with potential grantmakers.

3. Develops clear and concise descriptions of each suitable grant opportunity. A template for report format is provided and should be followed whenever possible.

4. Requires careful categorization of grant opportunities that will allow users of the website to search the funding database by funding interest.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. May be asked to research, develop, or maintain information in other areas of website.

2. May be asked to complete other writing or editing projects not related to the website.

3. Performs other tasks as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. A student majoring in Communications, Environmental Studies, English, Public Relations, or similar field is preferred.

2. Superior writing and editing abilities.

3. Ability to use varied research techniques.

4. Ability to work with deadline pressure.

5. Ability to work with Microsoft Office programs is required; some very basic knowledge of HTML code is helpful, but not necessary.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
1. Will work directly with communications coordinator.

2. Additional feedback will be received from web editorial board members.

3. It is expected that the applicant will be able to perform research independently once initial direction is given.

EVALUATION STANDARDS:
1. The quality of reports will be evaluated by: clarity of writing, accuracy of information, relevance to target audience, and depth of information presented.

2. Other important aspects of job performance include: the ability to complete reports in a timely manner, the ability to locate new information through research, the ability to update existing reports (including those completed by people other than the intern him/herself), and the presentation of a professional image of the RLCH to those people the intern contacts.
