Saints Soccer Signs Boise Prep

Helena-Mont. Carroll College Head women's soccer coach David Thorvilson recently announced that one more student-athlete has signed to join 2008 recruiting class.  Lauren Cacopardo (kak-O-par-doe) (Boise, ID) has signed a national letter of intent to play soccer for the Fighting Saints. 

Cacopardo, a member of the Les Bois United soccer club and Eagle High School, is a resourceful player that will help add depth to the holding midfield position for the Saints.  Lauren's club team has won four consecutive state championships and they have advanced to the regional quarterfinals every year.  She has also played varsity soccer all four years four Eagle HS and in 2005 the Eagle Mustangs won the state title.  Cacopardo received honorable mention award in 2007 while playing midfield for her high school team.  Lauren plans to major in Business Administration at Carroll.  "Lauren is a strong player on the ball and will have a physical presence in the midfield position for the Saints," said coach Thorvilson.

Thorvilson anticipated one more student athlete will sign with the Saints before the school year is over.  In all, the Saints will have signed 9 new members to the 2008 team to help replace the 11 seniors that will be graduating in May!

Saints Sign Two

Soccer School '08Helena-MT. Carroll College Head women's soccer coach David Thorvilson recently announced two more student-athletes have signed to join 2008 recruiting class.  Anna Curtin (Boise, ID) and Sophie Johnson (Spokane, WA) have signed national letters of intent to play soccer for the Fighting Saints, who finished the 2007 season with a record of 17-2-2 and won the inaugural frontier conference title on their way to winning the Region I title and advancing to the quarterfinals of the NAIA National Tournament. more

Carroll Soccer Signs Five for 2008

Helena-MT.  Head women's soccer coach David Thorvilson recently announced five student-athletes have signed to join the 2008 recruiting class.  Samantha Boyd (Livermore, CA), Abby Coburn (Ridgefield, WA), Tayt Ellison (Billings, MT), Lynnsey Janes (Boise, ID), and Rachael Lowe (Richland, WA) have signed national letters of intent to play soccer for the Fighting Saints, who finished the 2007 season ranked 6th nationally and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NAIA National tournament. more

Saints Claim Championship

Helena-MT.  The Carroll College soccer team under first year head coach Dave Thorvilson claimed the Frontier Conference Championship today in Nelson Stadium with a 5-1 win over the Griffins of Westminster College. The win came on the final day of the 2007 regular season, and marks the inaugural year of Frontier Conference Soccer.

In other firsts for the Carroll Soccer team, the Saints have earned the honor to host the Region I soccer tournament. Regional's will take place at Nelson stadium this Friday and Saturday. The first semifinal match between the #1 and #4 seed will begin at 12:00 pm on Friday, followed by the #2and #3 seeds at 3:00 pm.

The regional Championship will take place at 1:00 pm on Saturday and will pair the winners of each semifinal match. The winner of the Regional Championship will earn an automatic berth to the NAIA National Championship Tournament in Daytona, FL.

Carroll soccer players earn more accolades

It was announced Friday, November 28, 2007 that Carroll College forward Jenni Annicchiarico has been honored as an NAIA First Team All-American soccer player while teammate Katie Joseph made the second team.

Seniors Nikki Skaggs, at goalie, forward Valerie Feltz and midfielder Kate Horak all received honorable mentions. Story

Saints down Point Loma in 2nd round

soccer11-16-07Another year, another milestone for the Carroll College women’s soccer team.

The Saints, who earned the first NAIA national tournament berth in school history a year ago, etched their names in the history books yet again Friday night. They claimed the first national tournament victory in the program’s history, beating Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.) 2-1 on a chilly night at Embry-Riddle Soccer Stadium.

“It’s pretty significant,” Carroll senior keeper Nikki Skaggs said. “For so long the football team has gotten the spotlight, but we’ve been working our butts off to get in there, too. We want to show our school and everyone else we can play soccer, too.”
 The seventh-seeded Saints (17-1-2) were plenty convincing in Friday’s dynamic performance, which sets up a 5:30 p.m. quarterfinal battle today with defending national champion and second-seeded Lindsey Wilson (16-2-3). Story

Saints soccer field wins national award

The Sports Turf Manager’s Association has awarded Carroll College’s Nelson Stadium the 2007 STMA College and University Soccer Field of the Year.

Carroll College Director of Grounds Gerald Landby received word from the STMA that Carroll College will be receiving this national award at the STMA National Conference in Phoenix, Ariz., on January 18, 2008. Full story
