Professional Support

The new Carroll Civil Engineering Laboratory was made possible by a generous donation from Ed and Rick Maronick of Helena Sand and Gravel. Ed is a member of Carroll's Engineering Advisory Board, a collection of alumni, practicing professionals, business and community leaders, and academicians. The advisory board members give support, guidance, and advice for all aspects of the engineering program, they help find internships for students and jobs for graduates, and they work to build community support for and awareness of engineering at Carroll College.

Lab Testing Equipment

The lab will be equipped for a wide variety of materials and fluids testing, including:

  • two universal material testers (30,000 lb and 300,000 lb capacities) for steel, concrete, timber, and soils testing
  • sample splitter, screen shakers and sieves, odeometers, California Bearing Ratio apparatus, and proctor equipment for soils testing
  • gyratory compactor, Marshall tester, ductility tester, Rice specific gravity device, and ignition furnace for asphalt testing
  • concrete mixer, beam and cylinder forms, air entrainment apparatus, and slump cones for concrete testing
  • open channel flume, series-parallel pump apparatus, flow meters, and a sump for fluids testing

Nationally Recognized Civil Engineering

On November 1, 2001, the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) presented Carroll College with the ABET Innovation Award for its programs in civil engineering and in mathematics. ABET is the national organization that accredits all engineering programs.

In August 2001, Carroll's civil engineering program was accredited by ABET, retroactive to 1999. Because of this, Carroll civil engineering graduates are qualified to take the professional engineering licensing exams. Our civil engineering graduates have a 100% pass rate for the FE exam.
