Ron grew up in southeastern South Dakota where he played baseball, basketball and football in high school. After receiving his Master's degree at South Dakota State University he served four years in the military at Fort Carson, Colorado as a tank platoon leader and a division artillery chemical officer. After earning his Ph.D. at Colorado State University he taught for thirteen years at Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky before taking his position at Carroll. He enjoys horseback riding, hunting, kayaking, hiking, gardening and Helena Brewers baseball.
