Jazz Band (MUS 231-232) is dedicated to building a repertoire of jazz standards and developing skills in jazz improvisation. The band performs each semester for events both on and off campus. Jazz Band is offered for one credit per semester and is open by audition. Rehearsals are Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3:45-5:00 p.m. Scholarships are available by audition only. The Carroll College Department of Fine Arts presents the Jazz Band in its Fall Concert, “Jazz Gems,” on Thursday, November 19, 2015, at 4:00 p.m. in the Campus Center, and on Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at 7:30 p.m. in the Carroll Theatre. The program will feature several transcribed arrangements of classic recordings, such as L-O-V-E (Natalie Cole), Anything Goes (Frank Sinatra), With Plenty of Money and You (Tony Bennett), and Art Pepper’s renditions of Anthropology and Walkin’ Shoes. The band will also perform Ellington/Strayhorn’s Agra for baritone sax, the funk tune Absoludicrous by Gordon Goodwin, Lee Morgan’s Sidewinder, Sam Jones’ Unit 7, and the Gershwins’ Nice Work If You Can Get It.
