Jazz Band (MUS 231-232) is dedicated to building a repertoire of jazz standards and developing skills in jazz improvisation. The band performs each semester for events both on and off campus. Jazz Band is offered for one credit per semester and is open by audition. Rehearsals are Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3:45-5:00 p.m. Scholarships are available by audition only. The Carroll College Jazz Band will present its Spring Concert, "At Last," in the Carroll Theatre on Tuesday, May 5, 2015, at 7:30 p.m. Carroll students and guests led by Dr. Lynn Petersen will perform a variety of popular and jazz standards. The program will include Dizzy Gillespie’s A Night in Tunisia, Phil Wilson’s Basically Blues, John Lewis’ Rouge, W. C. Handy's St. Louis Blues, Tower of Power’s What Is Hip?, and John Williams' Cantina Band from “Star Wars.” Vocalists will join the band on At Last, Bei Mir Bist Du Schön, Feeling Good, Fly Me to the Moon, I Remember You, and ‘S Wonderful. Fifteen Carroll students and guests led by Dr. Lynn Petersen performed a variety of popular and jazz standards. The program included Miles Davis' All Blues, Chick Corea's Spain, Bobby Timmons' Moanin', Sammy Nestico's Katy, and Mongo Santamaria's Afro Blue. Vocalists joined the band on Mr. Zoot Suit, On Broadway, Sway, You've Got a Friend in Me from "Toy Story," and the holiday classic Santa Baby. A Dixieland combo pperformed Wolverine Blues.
