Jazz Band (MUS 231-232) is dedicated to building a repertoire of jazz standards and developing skills in jazz improvisation. The band performs each semester for events both on and off campus. Jazz Band is offered for one credit and is open by audition to students who have experience playing an instrument, including flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, guitar, bass, piano, and drums. Previous jazz experience is helpful but not a prerequisite. With the exception of piano and drums, musicians in the Jazz Band provide their own instruments. Rehearsals are Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3:45-5:00 p.m. Scholarships are available by audition only. Auditions will include a prepared piece of the student's choice, sight-reading, and improvisation. For more information or to schedule an audition, contact Dr. Lynn L. Petersen.
