Department Chair & Fr. William F. Greytak Professor of History and Humanities, received his Ph.D. from Washington State University. He has written eight books to date in East Asian relations and Montana history. He sits on the editorial board of Montana, The Magazine of Western History. Until 2008, Swartout served as the Korean Honorary Consul to the state of Montana. He currently holds the Fr. William F. Greytak Professorship in History and the Humanities.

Originally from Missoula, Montana, Dr. Glaes is an Assistant Professor of History. She earned her Ph.D from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she completed fields in modern French history, modern German history, European social and cultural history, and modern African history. She conducted fieldwork in France and wrote a dissertation entitled, "The Mirage of Fortune: West African Immigration to Paris and the Development of a Post-Colonial Immigrant Community, 1960-1981." Her research interests include migration, ethnicity, race, and identity in post-colonial France, the social history of medicine and public health, and the history of immigrant associations and organization.

Assistant Professor of History, earned her Ph.D at the University of Nevada, Reno, and completed fields in Renaissance History, Gender History, and Comparative European Family History. For her dissertation, Dr. Fregulia conducted archival research in Milan, Italy. Her varied research interests include the mercantile activities of women in late Renaissance and early modern Italy, Renaissance Italian social history, and women and gender in European history. In addition, Dr. Fregulia holds a Masters Degree in Middle Eastern Area Studies from the University of London, School of Oriental and African Studies, and continues to pursue scholarly interests in this area as well.

Associate Professor History, completed his graduate work at St. Louis University in medieval history. At Carroll Rev. Sullivan taught courses in pre-modern European History and History of the Catholic Church.
Rev. William Greytak

Professor History, completed his Ph.D at the University of Colorado-Boulder and taught courses in modern European History. Rev. Greytak still teaches Russian history and the history of Weimar for the department.
