he American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) student chapters of Carroll College and Montana State University will be co-hosting the ASCE Pacific Northwest Regional Student Conference in Helena on April 2 - 4, 2009. The student conference brings together approximately 300 students from 16 universities and colleges. Students from Alaska, British Columbia, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington will compete in ASCE-sponsored steel bridge and concrete canoe competitions, along with other events that promote civil engineering.
In order to consolidate the duties of hosting such an event, the two student chapters have chosen to hold the entire conference at Carroll College, utilizing Helena's proximity to water for the canoe races, as well as to help celebrate Carroll College's Centennial Celebration.
The MSU student chapter will coordinate the bridge competition, to be held in Carroll's PE Center, while Carroll will coordinate the technical paper and canoe competitions. The concrete canoe races will take place at a water ski lake in the Helena Valley.
Both schools will share in the planning of other events related to the conference, including a day-long Civil Engineering Career Fair scheduled for Friday April 3.
