Mission of the Carroll College Department of Communication
The mission of the Communication Department mirrors the mission of the college: by seeking the "full realization of the dual goals of vocation and enlightenment."
The communication department has developed both educational/vocational goals and holistic goals for the enlightenment of our students.
A graduate of the Department of Communication will graduate from Carroll College with the following skills:
1. The ability to use communication constructively and unselfishly, to serve others and promote peace on all levels - interpersonally, socially and globally.
2. Understanding of the moral foundations of communication, which include the need to treat every person with reverence.
3. Intercultural understanding and the ability to treat people of all backgrounds with tolerance and respect.
4. Skills in conflict management and relationship-building.
5. Preparation for graduate study.
6. Preparation for a career in public relations, journalism, a secondary education teacher of communication, speech or forensics.

Communication and Public Relations graduates continue their education by attending graduate programs in journalism, business administration, law programs, psychology, and other related programs. Graduates of Carroll's Communication/Public Relations Programs have continued their studies at such respected graduate programs as Cornell University, University of Oregon, Southern Illinois University, The University of Montana-Missoula, Arizona State University, and Wake Forest College.

FORENSIC COMPETITIONCarroll College offers interested students one of the finest forensics programs in the Northwest, competing against colleges and universities of all sizes in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Utah, and Washington. Carroll's Forensics Team has won more Northwest Regional Championships than any other team in the region, with students regularly qualifying for national competition. Carroll offers forensics scholarships to promising students in debate, drama, and speech.
8. INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
Both the Communication Studies and Public Relations programs offer students excellent internship opportunities in the Helena area. Carroll's students have completed internships at advertising agencies, political offices, Carroll's Public Relations Office, local television and radio stations, and corporate regional offices.

Alumni of the communication department have been successful in a large field of professional careers including jobs in advertising, marketing, event planning, public relations and secondary education.
