"The Community Health Program at Carroll is amazing. One of the most appealing aspects was being able to customize the experience to my interests. I had the freedom to choose electives that were specific to my career goals and faculty support in finding a job shadow, field experience, and internships that allow me to explore various aspect of community health. Every semester I have had the opportunity to go into the community and gain hands on experience. I believe these experiences will give me a competitive edge when applying for jobs and graduate school in the future. I came to Carroll with a specific career goal; however, after seeing the wide spectrum of jobs available within the Community Health field my future has been opened to seemingly endless possibilities."
Katharine Cooney, Current Carroll Student
"Currently I am enrolled in the University of Montana's Health Promotion Master's degree program and working for a health purchasing company (MAHCP) as their wellness coordinator. My future career goals are to become a corporate work-site health consultant. Carroll's Community Health program prepared me for my graduate school experience and gave me a wide range of knowledge from sports nutrition to program planning. The possibilities with a community health degree are endless and I would recommend it to anyone who is considering a career in the health field."

"My time at Carroll was nothing short of incredible! The Community Health program taught me the in's and out's of educating people regarding their personal health and inspired me to become a certified fitness specialist. During my senior year at Carroll I became an ACE (American Council on Exercise) Certified Group Fitness Instructor and Personal Trainer. The Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology, and Sports Nutrition and Conditioning classes have been very beneficial as I coach the Carroll Cheer Squad. I am so grateful to the Carroll staff and professors for all of the encouragement they provided to help me achieve my goals, and I look forward to the exciting future that my degree has awarded me!"
Beth (Downey) Paffhausen, Class of 2008
"My experience with the Community Health major was more than what I had anticipated. I was introduced to the community with service learning projects as well as an amazing internship. The networking skills and community connections I gained have helped me further my career beyond what I thought at the time.
Post graduation I have done contract work in two departments with the State of Montana, Epidemiology/Communicable Disease Control and Prevention Bureau/Tuberculosis and the Cardiovascular Health Program. In both departments I was asked to apply for full time positions, unfortunately I had to turn them down due to my relocation to Cleveland, Ohio. However, the professional relationships that I have made are helping me to continue with my Community Health field in Ohio. I am currently applying for jobs at the Cleveland Clinic, the Bureau of Infectious Disease & Controls Tuberculosis Program, and the Akron General Hospital.
If there is any advice I can give to a Senior with or without this degree, it would be to take your internship very seriously. Even when it is over, put in one day a week if you can and help them out. The dedication will impress and more than your foot will be in the door."
