Pacific Steel & Recycling, a Great Falls-based employee-owned company, recently announced it is donating $200,000 to four Montana schools: $50,000 each to Carroll College, the University of Great Falls, Montana State University-Great Falls College of Technology, and the University of Montana. Of its $50,000 gift, Carroll College will be using $20,000 to co-host the 2009 American Society of Civil Engineers Northwest Regional Student Conference at Carroll on April 2-4, 2009, with Pacific Steel & Recycling now the premier sponsor. Carroll is co-hosting this event with Montana State University, with all activities held in Helena. Conference events will include a concrete canoe competition to be held at Serenity Lake, a steel bridge contest to be held in the Carroll PE Center, and a technical paper competition to be held in Carroll College's Fortin Science Center-Simperman Hall complex. The ASCE conference draws hundreds of engineering students and faculty participants from colleges and universities throughout the Pacific Northwest and Alaska.
The remainder of Carroll's $50,000 will create an endowed scholarship to be awarded annually to a Carroll student. Tim Culliton, Carroll class of 1976, is the chief financial officer for Pacific Steel & Recycling and works in the main Great Falls office. Carroll would also like to thank Ray Wahlert, President and CEO of Pacific Steel.
