About Helena

About Helena

Meadow LakeHelena is is the capital of Montana and home to about 35,000 people in the "metro" area and approximately 60,000 total in the valley. The largest employers in the city are government related. In addition to being home to some 7,000 state employees, Helena is the seat of Lewis & Clark County, and is home to a number of federal agencies as well. Helena's economic stability is largely due to state government, regional healthcare, education, and small business. The majority of its workforce is professionals, white-collar workers, and employees of small businesses.

Helena is big enough to have a vibrant arts and culture scene, yet small enough that you see people you know as you shop around town.

Situated in the western central part of Montana, at the base of the Rocky Mountains, Helena is located to many Montana highlights. Yellowstone Park is a 3.5 hour drive to the South and Glacier park is 3.5 hours to the North. Bozeman and Missoula are each a 1.5 hour drive, and both Great Falls and Butte are about 1 hour away. Billings (the largest city in Montana) is about a 3.5 hour drive to the east.

Carroll College is located right in the heart of Helena. You can easily walk downtown from campus. A new walking path allows pedestrians to access the newest parks, eateries and shops in town. By foot or bike, you stand only minutes from restaurants, movies, shopping, espresso, theatre, civic events, outdoor activities, and job opportunities.

Helena city life is fun and friendly. Bars and restaurants host a wide choice of rock, jazz, blues and country music each week. The Myrna Loy Center provides Carroll students discounted tickets to movies and to world-class theatre, dance, and musical productions. The Helena Civic Center (just a few blocks from Carroll) brings in ballet, plays and symphonies, and a growing number of local art galleries are open to explore.

The Montana Historical Society offers a taste of Montana history plus priceless works by Western artists.
